Crennel is fresh off helping turn the New England Patriots into a dynasty and is already getting the most out of his new squad. He’s promised to put respectability back into one of the NFL’s most storied franchises. But it won’t be easy. Crennel will need the help of some the most diligent NFL fans in the league. It’s time to buy Cleveland Browns tickets and put the bite back in the Dog Pound. Woof!
Somewhere, the opinionated Jim Brown is nodding his head in approval. The outspoken Hall of Famer is happy that NFL football is back where it should be – Cleveland. Football fans still find it hard to believe that former owner Art Modell robbed them of their beloved Browns. But that’s what he did, and in 1995, it was off to Baltimore.
Cleveland would have its revenge. The Browns were staying in Cleveland. In 1996, the City of Cleveland reached an unprecedented deal to return the Browns to the NFL. The agreement stipulated that the name, colors and heritage of the Browns would remain in Cleveland. In 1999, 54 years after professional football first arrived in Cleveland, the NFL, and Browns tickets were once again a hot commodity.
The Browns were originally born in 1945, when businessman Author McBride brought his AAFC franchise to Cleveland. The first head coach was Hall of Famer Paul Brown. A newspaper contest was held to select the team’s nickname. “Browns,” in honor of the beloved head coach, was an overwhelming winner. Brown was bashful, though, and insisted nicknaming the team, the Panthers. However, a minor league football team in Cleveland still owned the rights to the “Panthers,” and, just like that, the Cleveland Browns were born.
The second coming of the Browns came in 1999. Chris Palmer, after helping build the expansion Jacksonville Jaguars into immediate playoff contenders, was lured to Cleveland. He became the 9th head coach of the Cleveland Browns in January. After being rewarded with the first pick in the 1999 NFL Draft, Cleveland nabbed a strong-armed quarterback from Kentucky. Tim Couch was supposed to be the Browns’ ticket to rebuilding the proud franchise. Couch had a roller-career. Sometimes he dazzled, but in the end, the Golden Boy fizzled.
New head coach Romeo Crennel is looking to make Browns tickets sizzle once again. The former New England Patriot defensive coordinator knows what it takes to win Super Bowls. He has broke ground on rebuilding the Browns. Step-by-step, piece-by-piece, he’s constructing a future powerhouse. The process shouldn’t take long. 2005 first-round pick Braylon Edwards is a great starting point. The other pieces of the puzzle are on their way. It’s time for NFL football fans in Cleveland to load up on Browns tickets.
