San Diego Chargers History San Diego Chargers Tickets

San Diego Chargers tickets delivered with a bang in 2004, and 2005 is shaping up to be another great year for fans lucky enough to get their hand on high demand Chargers tickets. Drew Brees had a breakout season and LaDainian Tomlinson proved once again to be one of the NFL’s best weapons, as the Chargers fought their way to a 12-4 record and an AFC West Title. Winning in the NFL playoffs is the next step in 2005, as Qualcomm Stadium prepares for the onslaught of frenzied NFL fans lining up with Chargers tickets in hand.

The San Diego Chargers original home was Los Angeles as one of the first members of the AFL in 1960. After a single year in the City of Angels, the Chargers relocated to San Diego. With Sid Gillman as head coach, the Chargers won four Western Division titles in the AFL, while in San Diego and a league championship in 1963. The team included quarterback Jack Kemp and wide receiver Lance Alworth, the first AFL player to be voted into the NFL Hall of Fame.

Merging into the NFL in 1970, the Chargers were in the midst of a less than successful era. It wasn’t until the legendary Don Coryell took over as head coach in 1978 and appointed Dan Fouts as starting quarterback that things began to look up. Fouts led the league in passing for the next three years and gave the Chargers three straight first place finishes in their division. His 4,000 yard season in 1979 was the first in NFL history. The team included three future Hall of Fame players in Fouts, tight end Kellen Winslow and wide receiver Charlie Joiner along with one of the NFL’s better defenses of the era.

The Chargers experienced a long dry spell after the retirement of Fouts though, and failed to make the playoffs until 1992, with head coach Bobby Ross calling the shots and quarterback Stan Humphries at the helm. A string of playoff appearances in the 90’s gave the Chargers and Humphries their only shot at an NFL Championship in 1995, when they fell to the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl.

2002 saw the hiring of head coach Marty Schottenheimer and a new beginning for the San Diego Chargers. Schottenheimer came to the Chargers after a successful career with both the Kansas City Chiefs and the Cleveland Browns, where he established himself as a head coach after taking over the team from Sam Rutigliano and guiding the team to a respectable 4-4 finish after a 1-7 start. After finishing last in the AFC West in 2003, the Chargers captured the division title in 2004 under Schottenheimer’s leadership, the 13th time one of his teams earned a postseason spot and the Chargers first division title since 1994.

San Diego Chargers tickets will provide the answers to some interesting questions in 2005. Is Drew Brees for real or was 2004 a fluke? Can Brees fight off the competition from first-round draft pick Philip Rivers? Can LaDainian Tomlinson continue his assault on the record books? One thing’s for sure: Qualcomm Stadium and San Diego Chargers tickets are an unbeatable combination for NFL fans in San Diego.
