Head coach Bill Parcells, owner Jerry Jones, and the Dallas Cowboys are prepared to take the NFL by the horns and win the NFC East in the 2005 season.  Parcells has brought back many of his former players, including quarterback Drew Bledsoe and wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson, that have experience with his coaching style and playbook to provide veteran leadership to the team.  2004 top draft pick Julius Jones at the running back position will provide the ground game on offense and with two 2005 first round picks, the Cowboys think they have their tickets to success in defensive ends Demarcus Ware and Marcus Spears.  Cowboys tickets have never been a hotter commodity and Texas Stadium is sure to be filled to capacity for each and every home game.

The Dallas Cowboys joined the NFL in 1960 and immediately hired Tom Landry as their head coach.  The team struggled that first year and finished their season 0-11.  Fans were not deterred however, and Cowboys season ticket holders were rewarded with their first playoff berth in 1966, and first Super Bowl appearance in 1970.  They would lose Super Bowl V against the Baltimore Colts by a field goal.  The next year however, led by quarterback Roger Staubach, the Cowboys faced the Miami Dolphins in Super Bowl VI and took their first Lombardi Trophy home to Dallas after a decisive 24-3 victory.

Throughout the 1970s, Landry and the Cowboys were the dominant force in the NFL.  His “Doomsday Defense” was legendary, and Staubach continued to wow fans with his ability to come from behind and steal victory from the jaws of defeat.  In all, he spearheaded 23 comeback victories.  At the time of his retirement in 1979, he was the highest rated passer of all time.  He would lead the Cowboys to win another Super Bowl in 1977, Super Bowl XII against the Denver Broncos.  The Cowboys ruled the NFL in the late 1960s and all throughout the 1970s: with the exception of 1974, Dallas appeared in the playoffs every year from 1966 to 1983.

Known as “America’s Team” for their large numbers of fans outside the state of Texas, the Cowboys are responsible for the Thanksgiving Day NFL games.  In 1966, they began to play a game on Thanksgiving Day, which they continue to do to this day.

When Jerry Jones bought the Cowboys in 1989, he fired the only coach the Cowboys had ever had, Tom Landry, and replaced him with Jimmy Johnson.  After a brief period of righteous indignation, Cowboys season ticket holders were rewarded with two back-to-back Super Bowl Championships under Johnson in 1992 and 1993.  It’s unlikely that the NFL will see another set of players as we did in the 1990s with quarterback Troy Aikman, running back Emmitt Smith, and wide receiver Michael Irvin. The Cowboys would again win an NFL Championship in 1995 when they faced the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XXX.

In 2003, Jones brought head coach Bill Parcells on board, and Parcells quickly began rebuilding the team in his image.  Julius Jones is ready to provide the running power to Parcells’ trademark smashmouth offense and Drew Bledsoe, familiar with Parcells’ schemes from his days with the Patriots, will give the Cowboys the veteran leadership the largely young team needs.  But can rookie defensive ends Demarcus Ware and Marcus Spears provide the explosiveness and aggression that a Bill Parcells defensive unit relies on?  The best way to find out is with Dallas Cowboys tickets in 2005!
