Miami Dolphins History
The 2004 season left many Miami Dolphins ticket holders frustrated and disappointed after the unexpected retirement of running back Ricky Williams and a dismal 4-12 record. But with the arrival of new head coach Nick Saban, rookie running back Ronnie Brown and seasoned veteran quarterback Gus Frerrote, fans have reason to celebrate. The Dolphins are set to make a comeback in the 2005 season and return to their traditional winning record and a dominant position in the AFC East. Dolphins tickets are sure to be hot commodity this season, as Saban, a former college coach at LSU, molds the team in his image and brings a new hope to the city of Miami.
For most of their history, the Miami Dolphins were led by head coach Don Shula, the winningest coach in NFL history. Shula's overall record of 347-173-6 is unmatched in professional football history as is his record of coaching in six Super Bowls. Perhaps the greatest achievement of Shula and the Dolphins came in 1972, when they became the only NFL team to ever finish with a perfect season record of 16-0. Many loyal fans keep their 1972 Dolphins ticket stubs as a treasured memento of this great accomplishment. Their victory in 1972's Super Bowl VII against the Washington Redskins was the first Lombardi Trophy for Miami, and was followed the next year with another NFL Championship in Super Bowl VII against the Minnesota Vikings.
In the third game of the 1983 season, Coach Shula named rookie quarterback Dan Marino as his starter, beginning the fabulous career of the Hall of Fame quarterback. In his rookie season, Marino won both the AFC passing title and the NFL rookie of the year award. His next season was no less impressive, as he set single-season records for most passing yards at 5,084, most completions at 362 and most touchdown passes with 48. His touchdown pass record held for 20 years, until Peyton Manning surpassed him with 49 TDs in 2004. Marino's most passing yards in a season record still stands to this day, as do his career records for most TD passes, passing yards gained, pass completions and pass attempts, making him the most prolific passer in NFL history. Marino led the Dolphins for 16 years and only appeared in one Super Bowl, but remains one of the NFL's greatest quarterbacks.
The 2005 season is sure to have fans clamoring for Dolphins tickets once more. Rookie running back Ronnie Brown out of Auburn exploded in Week 3 with 123 yards and a touchdown. The return of Ricky Williams to Dolphins Stadium in Week 6 will give the Fins one of the most potent running back corps in the NFL. The addition of Gus Frerrote will provide the team with veteran leadership at the quarterback position, and Nick Saban's success at LSU is sure to carry over to the NFL. Miami fans can root for their team with pride once more, as the Dolphins will be a force to be reckoned with in the AFC once more. Be sure to be there for the historic comeback season with Miami Dolphins football tickets!
