In 2005, the Washington Redskins are a force to be reckoned with in the NFC East.  In his second year out of retirement, Hall of Fame head coach Joe Gibbs has assembled a marvelous offense with the veteran leadership of quarterback Mark Brunell and the proven skills of running back Clinton Portis and wide receiver Santana Moss.  The Redskins defense, ranked No 1 in the NFC in 2004, will continue to shut down offenses with the hard-hitting action of free safety Sean Taylor, linebackers LaVar Arrington and Marcus Washington, as well as cornerback Shawn Springs.  Redskins ticket holders believe in the magic of Coach Gibbs and know that their team has what it takes to go all the way to Super Bowl XL.

The home of the Redskins has not always been Washington, DC; they joined the NFL in 1932 as the Boston Braves and played their home games in Fenway Park.  The team’s name was shortly changed to the Redskins and, in 1937 owner George Preston Marshall moved the team to the nation’s capital.  The newly christened Washington Redskins signed Hall of Fame quarterback Sammy Baugh, who immediately led them to the NFL title in addition to playing at the cornerback and punter positions.

The golden years in Washington’s history truly began in 1981, when owner Jack Kent Cooke hired Joe Gibbs as head coach.  The very next year, Gibbs brought home to Washington Redskins ticket holders their first Lombardi Trophy, defeating the Miami Dolphins 27-17 in Super Bowl XVII.  In 1986, Gibbs brought quarterback Doug Williams to Washington and took them back to the Super Bowl in 1987.  The Redskins set a Super Bowl record by scoring five touchdowns in the second quarter in the 42-10 rout of John Elway and the Denver Broncos.  Williams threw for over 300 yards and 4 touchdowns and was named Super Bowl MVP.  He made history as the first African-American quarterback to play in the Super Bowl.

In 1991, Joe Gibbs’ Redskins were the dominant team in the NFL with a 14-2 record.   They defeated the Buffalo Bills 37-24 in Super Bowl XXVI and brought home their third Lombardi Trophy.  The Redskins defense held Bills running back Thurman Thomas to 10 yards and sacked quarterback Jim Kelly five times.  Redskins quarterback Mark Rypien threw two touchdown passes and was named the game’s MVP.  Much to the sadness of Redskins ticket holders, Coach Gibbs retired in 1993 after twelve years as the team’s most beloved coach.

Team owner Daniel Snyder has brought high hopes back to FedEx Field by luring Joe Gibbs out of retirement, much to the joy of Redskins ticket holders.  With outstanding running back Clinton Portis, veteran quarterback Mark Brunell, and athletic linebacker LaVar Arrington, the Redskins have the talent to excite fans and challenge the impressive teams of the NFC East.  Hard-hitting free safety Sean Taylor and 2005 first round draft pick Carlos Rogers will help entrench the Washington defense as one of the top defenses in the NFL and explosive wider receiver Santana Moss provides a deep threat to the ‘Skins offense. Loyal fans know that their team is poised to become one of the most exciting in professional football.  The only way to catch all the action is with Washington Redskins tickets to FedEx Field!
