Houston Texans History
Houston Texans tickets offer some intriguing questions for 2005. Which team is the real Houston Texans team? The team that ran off four straight wins after an 0-2 start last season? Or is it the team that dropped their next three to fall out of the race for the AFC South? There is no doubt that the Texans have enough talent to sneak up on some teams in 2005, but only if they can find some consistency, a solid running game, and a few receivers to line up with Andre Johnson. If so, 2005 may end up being a great year for fans with Houston Texans tickets.
The Houston Texans hit the NFL scene in 2002 after several years of politicking and maneuvers by owner Bob McNair. After fighting off Los Angeles’ bid for an NFL team, Houston was awarded the Texans franchise and immediately made plans to get off to a good start by hiring Dom Capers as their first head coach. Capers came to the Texans with a background in building expansion teams. As the first head coach of the Carolina Panthers, Capers established an NFL record for most wins by a new club at 7-9. Under his leadership, the Panthers went 12-4 in 1996, winning the NFC West and the first playoff game in club history, before eventually falling to Green Bay in the NFC Championship Game.
The Houston Texans burst on the NFL scene in their first regular season game on Sept. 8, 2002. Facing off against instate rival, the Dallas Cowboys, Houston shocked the football world by pasting a 19-10 loss on the Cowboys and becoming the first expansion team in NFL history to win their initial game. That inaugural year saw the Texans post a 4-12 record, with wins coming against Jacksonville, the New York Giants (a playoff team in 2002) and the Pittsburgh Steelers. A 5-11 record followed in 2003.
The 2004 season saw the Texans improve dramatically but end up still looking for the franchise’s first winning season. Houston entered the season finale with a shot at a .500 record, but would drop its final game of the season against Cleveland to finish at 7-9.
Throughout their short existence the Texans have relied heavily on quarterback David Carr. The strong-armed, good-looking QB from Fresno State has responded to the challenge. Though Carr has suffered through the growing pains any expansion club endures, including being sacked more than any quarterback in the league, he has continued to put up good numbers and impressed the rest of the NFL with his toughness and durability by throwing for 34 touchdowns and over 8,000 yards in his first three seasons.
Houston Texans tickets and a day at Reliant Stadium is still one of the best entertainment values to be found in the Lone Star state. The scrappy Texans are capable of giving the best NFL teams a run for their money. The emergence of running back Domanick Davis along with the talents of quarterback David Carr and wide receiver Andre Johnson is all the reason any NFL fan needs to pick up Texans tickets and head for Reliant Stadium.
