What’s going on with the Minnesota Vikings? That’s the question being asked all over the NFL. Trading Randy Moss was supposed to be the Vikings’ ticket to the Super Bowl. Off-season acquisitions of Fred Smoot, Pat Williams and Napoleon Harris were expected improve the Minnesota defense. Wide receiver Nate Burleson and first-round draft pick Troy Williamson were supposed to make Vikings ticket holders forget all about Moss. But the early part of the 2005 NFL season was a nightmare, especially for Pro Bowl quarterback Daunte Culpepper. Still, no one can argue that the Vikings posses playoff-caliber talent. Can Culpepper resurrect the Vikings? Will Mike Tice still be the head coach by the end of the season? Find out by picking up your Minnesota Vikings tickets today.

Since their inception into the NFL in 1961, the Minnesota Vikings have put some power behind the color purple. Hall of Famers like Allen Page helped form a fierce defensive unit, known as the Purple People Eaters. Unfortunately for Page, he is most remembered for recovering a fumble and running the wrong way. It’s an NFL blooper for the ages.

Head coach Norm Van Brocklin first led the Vikings onto the field at Metropolitan Stadium on Sept. 17, 1961. A riled up crowd of starved Minnesota football fans rushed over to buy Vikings tickets and were delighted when a brash, mobile quarterback named Fran Tarkenton passed for 250 yards to lead the upstart Vikings to a 37-13 rout over the vaunted Chicago Bears.  Tarkenton would punch the Vikings’ ticket to three Super Bowls, before his Hall of Fame career ended. He would go on to be a beloved announcer of “Monday Night Football.”

The Vikings made their first of four Super Bowl appearances in 1969. Super Bowl IV was the last meeting between the AFL and NFL, as the two leagues merged the following season. Facing the Kansas City Chiefs in New Orleans, the Vikings showed early nerves and fell behind 16-0 at halftime. The Vikings cut the Chiefs’ lead to 16-7 on a Dave Osburn touchdown run late in the third quarter. But the Chiefs would answer with a long touchdown pass en route a convincing 23-7 victory.

In Super Bowl VIII, Minnesota would fall to the powerful Miami Dolphins, coached by the legendary Don Shula. The following season in Super Bowl IX, the Vikings’ title hopes would again be dashed by crucial mistakes.

A slow start has left the Vikings in catch up mode. Barring a turnaround, changes are on the way in Minnesota. All right Vikings Fans: If Mike Tice isn’t the man in Minnesota, who is? Grab some Vikings tickets, head on over to the Metrodome and let your frustration be heard.
